The first time I heard of the phrase "Commit Random Acts of Kindness and Senseless Beauty" was while reading an article in a Reader's Digest in the early 1980's.  As I recall, the movement was an "answer" to the many seemingly "random acts of violence" of the era.  There was a movie in 2000, "Pay It Forward", starring Kevin Spacey and Helen Hunt that was based on this principle.  If you are ever in the mood for a "good" movie, dig this one up, heres a clip.
