buying a home: BeWare of Craigslist Rental and For Sale Scams - 06/13/12 05:03 AM
Be careful if you are using Craigslist to find rentals or homes to purchase.  The scam artist are back and they are praying on victims.  Remember if it sounds to good to be true. "Then It probably is."   There MO is usually listing a home for rent or for sale for a loss less than normal and stating they are just temporarily moving and are looking for someone to cover the payment etc...   They are trying to get the victim to give them personal info usually requested for in application form and in most cases they will try to … (4 comments)

buying a home: Failure to disclose knocks out Muhammad Ali - 10/13/11 02:24 AM
Former Boxing Champ Muhammad Ali and his wife, Yolanda, are suing the couple who sold them their Louisville, Ky., mansion, according to multiple reports and Fox news.

Ali and his wife claim that the former homeowners, Patrick and Beverly Lancaster, lied to them about problems with the home. The problems were discovered after moving in. The lawsuit states that the Alis were not informed of roof and chimney leaks, poor insulation, improper ventilation and mold.
Ali also says the Lancasters were well aware of these issues but still sold the home.
The Alis purchased the home in 2007

buying a home: Do you know the difference between a fixture and personal property? - 07/06/11 08:45 AM
This post was inspired by Tim Brown's post Hey That's coming with Me!Thanks for sharing Tim, buyers and sellers often do not understand the difference between personal property and fixtures.   They often want to keep items that are sentimental to them and don't understand why it does or shouldn't transfer.   When I am working with a seller it is best to address issues of fixtures vs personal property up front. I tell my sellers - if you want it remove it or replace it before we list.  I know it sounds simple but sometimes buyers will ask for some personal item furniture, art … (1 comments)

buying a home: Trying to save money in Hampton Roads read "Illusion of a Deal" - 11/01/10 10:41 AM
Chris and Stephanie Somers have a great point.  Trying to save money at the grocery store can be a joke.  Even by clipping coupon the vendors know how to camouflage the real price.  I spent $255.00 at WalMart today and still did not get everything on my list.  I am starting to absolutely dread the Supermarket.  In Norfolk we have the commissary which usually saves me money.  I saved most of my meats and bulk items from my list for a later trip to the commissary which is also not as cheap as it used to be.  But I live in Chesapeake which … (2 comments)

buying a home: Norfolk Buyers do you need your credit report, FTC Cracks Down on term Free - 03/11/10 01:24 AM
Are you working on or watching your credit. This is great info from Eleanor Thorne reblogged to you by The Hampton Roads Real Estate Lady!
I Also recommend http://annualcreditreport.com

I'm tired of that "F-R- Double E Spells FREE" credit report commercial!    Because what they are "hawkin' is NOT free! Thankfully, on March 3, 2010 the Federal Trade Commission file a revision to the Free Annual File Disclosure Rule to address the abuses and deceptive advertising for Free Credit Reports.  This was part of the new Credit Card Accountability and Responsibility Act 2009.
The new disclosure is available now, but must be … (1 comments)
