Hotchkiss National Fish Hatchery, Hotchkiss, Colorado. Hotchkiss National Fish Hatchery was started in 1967 as part of the Colorado River Storage Project Act. The Act calls for fish and wildlife facilities to mitigate the losses and improve conditions for fish and wildlife. The Hotchkiss National Fish Hatchery is located about five miles west of Hotchkiss, Colorado just south of Hwy 92. The hatchery is one of the few left in the state that is whirliing disease free and this means the hatchery has increased it's fish production to help the Division of Wildlife stock extra lakes in Colorado and surrounding states.
