Today we went to an Open House where it was simply overrun with buyer hopefuls. Vehicles lined both sides of the road as we approached the property. The house was located in an excellent school district on a two plus acre piece of land with a newer roof, newer swimming pool and the structure of the house was solid. The sad thing was it was pretty much gutted on the inside. You see the owners had gone away over Thanksgiving and that is when the plumbing in the second floor bathroom decided to go on holiday also. As a home owner you are at liberty to decorate, remodel, upgrade, or not, when a house is yours.
Of course you need to know your municipalities guidelines for major upgrades, and follow Home Owner Association guidelines, if they apply, before you make major changes. But mostly you can paint, paper, decorate, furnish, plant, trim and create whatever type of setting you want, in and around your house, when it is yours.
If you are a renter, you have to ask permission of your landlord before you make changes. Landlords have guidelines they want their tenants to follow, even down to the color paint … (2 comments)

My parents were first generation Americans, both born in the Philadelphia area shortly after their parents arrived on the east coast from Eastern Europe. My grandparents left horrid conditions in the hopes of providing and creating a better future for their children in the land of opportunity.
