New York City Welcomes 2010

Known as the capitol of the world, New York City hosted its annual (105th year) traditional celebration -New Year's Eve in Times Square - a place where an estimated one million New Yorkers and tourists brave the frigid temperatures to ring in the New Year.Due to 2009 being one of the worst years anyone has ever seen, people collectively welcomed 2010 with a good riddance to the old and hope for the new.Those who stood out in the freezing rain said it was well worth it as New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg pushed the button to start the 12-foot, 11,875-pound Waterford crystal ball's descent over Times Square. Another New Year's Eve celebration hosted 1,500 partygoers at the glittering wake for Central Park's landmark Tavern on The Green restaurant, which closed down after the last guests departed. Tavern on the Green will be very hard to duplicate," said Michael Desederio, its chief operating officer. "There've been festivities all week, people saying their last goodbyes. It's going out in style."
