Purpose of the U.S. Census - seems the federal government is confused
2010 is the year of the next U.S. Census.  The year where the federal government is required to count how many people live in the various states that make up the United States of America.
The census is only mentioned 2 places in the U.S. Constitution. The first place is in Article 1 Section 2 in the 3rd paragraph and the second place is briefly in the 14th Amendment in Section 2. An "Enumeration" is to be made every 10 years for the purpose of alloting the numbers of representatives that each state is permitted to have in the House of Representatives.  The original Article 1 Section 2 does mention "direct taxes" but that was removed back when the 16th Amendment was passed creating an income tax.
There is no other reason for the census permitted by the Constitution.  Yet I am constantly hearing radio ads, TV ads, and even their Census website gathering data to re-apportion money for schools, roads, government programs, etc.  Apparently the government hasn't read their own Constitution lately.  The Constitution does not allow for this data to be collected in a census.
The sole purpose for gathering anything more than a head count of people in a household is so that the government can figure out more ways ... more
