Plantation shutters are interior shutters consisting of large louvered panels that are hinged to a frame and installed on a window as a window treatment. Plantation shutters differ from traditional window blinds and window shades in that they are more like furniture than they are blinds or shades and unlike cafe shutters which have smaller louvers. Plantation shutters range in size from 2 1/2 inch to 4 1/2 inch louvers and are usually constructed of real wood like bass or ramin, but can also be made of non-wood products like faux wood or vinyl. Wood plantation shutters can be finished in painted or stained finishes and are available in many color choices.As well as color choices there are many other options available with plantation shutters such as hinge style including hidden hinges, tilt bar style that also include a hidden tilt bar style, frame styles and more. Plantation shutters can be custom made to fit most any shape window including arch and eyebrow style.Unlike traditional blinds like wood blinds and faux wood blinds, plantation shutters are considered a higher end product and will cost more money than other traditional window coverings.
