Congratulations to Active Rain on 200,000 members
I wanted to say Congratulations to Active Rain on hitting 200,000 members.
I joined AR back in 2006, I think it was August or September. I don't know how many members there were then but it was small enough where everyone knew everybody. There was a forum and I think the blogging portion was supposed to be an extra to the forum, but the forum turned out to be a feeding ground for people to sell their wares. Ask a question - get a "I'll help you for a fee" type answer. I was glad to see them go.
The blogs just took over and took on a life of their own. We started to self-govern and spam comments were naturally frowned upon. We set up our own blog-comment ettiquette. We wished that the "Rain Gawds" would give us a gold star (ok, that hasn't changed, lol).
A group of us made a pact to comment on any blog that didn't have a comment on it. I believe that was The Lovely Wife's idea.
I popped in last night and saw the gigantic 200,000 member banner. Cool! I certainly did my share of inviting members. Some joined, some didn't.
