Sales Tax Holiday - Tax Free Weekend in SC - 2011
The annual Sales Tax Holiday, or tax free weekend in SC will be held August 5 thru Aug 7, 2011. 
The purpose of this holiday is to help familes prepare for school, and equates to shoppers getting a tax break on school supplies.
Sales tax in SC is 6%, plus local option tax of 2.5% (1% local option sales tax, 1.5% transportation tax) for Charleston county.
If you spend $100 this weekend on school supplies,  you will only pay $100.  No tax will be added to your final bill.  That would be a savings of $8.50.   
Eligible items include clothing, shoes, school supplies, computers, printers, etc.  As per SC Dept of Revenue, not all items are tax free.  NOT included in the Sales Tax Holiday is :  jewelry, cosmetics, eyeware, wallets, watches and other personal items.  For more info, visit SCTAX.org.
Plan your time....stores and shoppes are expected to be crowed, as this is the third most busiest shopping weekend of the year, behind the weekend after Thamksgiving and the weekend after Christmas.
