Annual Cemetery Walk
Maggie Marconi will once again lead us into the past…..150 years past, to the Civil War Era on this year’s Cemetery Walk at Oakland Cemetery in Perkins Twp.
                                                      
OaklandCemetery is the largest cemetery in ErieCounty.  The first burial took place on May 1,1850., and Moors Farwell, Sandusky’s first mayor was buried here December 15, 1880.  OaklandCemetery has been the official burial ground for almost all of the pioneer residents and those involved with Sandusky’s history.
Over the years, many have described the Cemetery as having the feeling of a peaceful arboretum.  The beautiful grounds might best be experienced by taking the Self-Guided Historical Walking Tour.  
 
This is the twelfth year Maggie, a local historian and museum administrator of FolletHouseMuseum, has led the Cemetary walk, and each tour is devoted to a different theme.  During this year’s walk, you will visit at least 20 graves of Sandusky’s Civil War heroes.
 
The tour is Free, but spots are limited, so reservations are necessary.
