Dia de los Muertos - Day of the Dead ~ San Antonio Texas


 The vast majority of us spent this past weekend as well as all day yesterday celebrating Halloween.  This is a fun whimsical holiday that we take advantage of every October 31.  We (adults and kids both) get to dress up in silly, scary and out of the ordinary costumes and eat candy to our hearts contents.  Although there is history and tradition behind the holiday, we really don't have much in the way of sentimental or emotional ties to it like most of our other celebratory days (Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, 4th of July, Veterans day, etc.).
 
 
Many folks here in San Antonio and around the world celebrate a holiday right after Halloween (November 1 and 2 to be exact) that celebrates the special people in their lives who have passed on.  This holiday is aptly named "Dia de los Muertos" or Day of the Dead.  Lots of folks may confuse this celebration with Halloween since we typically associate Halloween with ghosts, goblins and ghouls.  De de los Muertos, however is much more than that.  It is not a day to scare people, it ... more
