Do You Know Your Rhode Island State Symbols?
(almost) Everyone knows that Rhode Island is the smallest state in the nation, right? That may be a given.... but do you know the Rhode Island State Bird? The State Drink? The State Flower? "The Family Guy" cartoon may help some of you, but here are a few well known and hardly known facts about "Little Rhody", "The Thirteenth State", "The Ocean State":


The State Flag: Rhode Island's motto is "Hope".


State Shell: The Quahog of course!!!


The State Bird: The Rhode Island Red Hen


The State Fruit: The Rhode Island Greening Apple (Malus Domestica)


The State Flower: The Violet.



The State Tree: Red Maple (Acer Rubrum)


The State Fish: The Striped Bass (Striper)


The State Yacht (yes, we have a state yacht!): Courageous (1977 America's Cup winner)


The State Mineral: Bowenite (Considered a semi-precious stone, discovered by George T. Bowen, commonly found in Northern Rhode Island)


The State Rock: Cumberlandite (slightly magnetic, most commonly found in Cumberland of course!)


The State Drink: Coffee Milk
