Not all cats can do this, but I have a cat that can catch bats. When I saw the first catch, I just thought it was a fluke. But then I watched him one night and saw that he had a way of catching them regularly. He is a pretty smart cat, but we concerned that the bats may be carrying disease that will harm the cat. The vet wasn’t too concerned; we try to get him in the house when he is in a stalking mode.
Bats can be disgusting, cute, helpful, dangerous, spooky, and harmful to your home. If you have bats at your property you probably have a feel for many of these adjectives. The common bat feeds on thousands of insects every night; they are quiet and efficient and nocturnal so you may not even notice.
They do produce waste that you don’t want around the house, and have been known to carry diseases. Bats are good to have around, but it is best if they are not nesting on your property. They prefer cool dark places like roof eaves and under decks. ... more
