A Touching Way to Honor the Loss of Lives of 9/11
Every year I drive down the entire 10 miles of Gulf of Mexico Drive on Longboat Key on September 11.  There are  2,977 American Flags  planted on the side of the road, one for each of the souls who lost their lives on this day.  The Public Works Department puts them out the day before and will remove them tomorrow, reminding us of how quickly the life we take for granted can be changed,  but for the brief time that they wave, all of us are reminded of the importance of never forgetting this day.

I lived on Longboat Key back then and President Bush was staying across the street from my condo at the Colony Beach and Tennis Resort.  I waited for his motorcade that morning to pass by and then went on to work while he headed to a public school to meet students and give them an award. 
 A couple of hours later our world changed forever. 
This solemn yet powerful memorial will be repeated every year and every year I will drive by it and pray for those who are no longer with us.
