The Long Island Children's Museum, now part of Museum Row in Garden City, has only been around for 20 years.  Growing out of an idea by a group of Educators, Artists and Business people in 1989, it finally came to fruition as a stimulating learning space for the children of Long Island and visitors alike in 1993.  Far exceeding its initial hope of 25,000 visitors annually, in the first year alone, 65,000 people came through the doors of the museum, proving there was a need for an experience like this and sending the trustees in search of a permanent location with more space.
The 40,000 square foot Long Island Children's Museum, a nurturing environment that offers hands on exhibits, science, art and music workshops and so much more, now houses a 145 seat state-of-the-art theater, 14 interactive exhibit galleries and three classroom sized learning studios.  The Museum is a recipient of the National Medal for Museum and Library Service, the highest honor conveyed to institutions of this type, for outstanding service to the community.
