I'm Ready to KILL The Property Brothers....
I got rid of cable so I have never seen their show. I did read about them in the NY Times.  I hate them because they give my clients crazy expectations. Buyers walk in every house and they want to knock down walls and redo everything--just like The Property Brothers. I'm going crazy!
I would love to have magic like that old TV show "Bewitched." I'd wriggle my nose and redo kitchens and baths and floors and finishes. It would be so fun! In the real world, with no time lapse photography, reconstruction is challenge after challenge. Do It Yourself is really hard. Hiring contractors means you need luck and lots of extra money. Surprises and cost over-runs are par for the course. 
 
I just showed some clients a condo that was beautifully done--really special finishes. Just what they wanted! It is at the high end of their price range. Someone else is bound to grab it while they deliberate. Meanwhile, they just called to see a loft that is a beat up foreclosure. They think they can redo the bath like the Brothers....for just $20,000. Heaven help me. I need to produce a show called "Reality Check."
