Race to the Top of Vermont 2016 - RTTTOV
The 9th annual Race to the Top of Vermont will take place on Sunday, August 28th at 9 am. The event is open to runners, hikers and cyclists to climb Mt. Mansfield's 4.3 mile Toll Road Ski Trail with an approximate elevation gain of 2,500 feet.
The event is hosted by the Catamount Trail Association and proceeds will benefit the Catamount Trail and Vermont Land Trust.  The Catamount Trail is a wonderful trail that spans 300 miles up the length of Vermont. I would like to hike it all some day.
Approximately 800 participants will partake in this event. The fastest runners will ascend the mountain in about 35 minutes. Finishers who make it to the top will not only have a great sense of accomplishment, but will also be rewarded with spectacular panoramic views from the summit.
After the race, there will be a barbeque beginning at 11:30 at the Midway Lodge at Stowe Mountain Resort. There will be music and tickets are $15.
When I first heard about this event, I was impressed that people run up this trail as it is very steep in parts with a 13% average grade. I would think - Wow, how do people do that? My dog, Sadie, and I have walked this trail ... more
