How Did Wenatchee, WA Get Its Name?

"Welcome to the Apple Capital of the World."
The city of Wenatchee was named for the Wenatchi tribe. I don't know why the spelling was changed. The Wenatchi Native American people originally lived in the region near the confluence of the Columbia and Wenatchee Rivers.  This is located in the geographic center of Washington State.  
Wenatchee has long been known as the Apple Capital of the World. Sadly, though, many of the fruit trees have been pulled out to plant houses and grape vineyards.  
Wenatchee is also known as the Power Belt of the Northwest, due to the many hydroelectric dams located on the Columbia River.  The Columbia runs from Canada, through Wenatchee and, eventually, into the Pacific Ocean.   We are blessed with very inexpesive hydroelectric power rates.
