Thankful That I Paid Attention and Learned
We don't all have the opportunity to learn from our parents or those close to us when young, for a number of reasons.  That was not the case with my brother and I as we were always with one of our parents, since day care was not as common back then.
Our father was raised in a culture similar to living on  farm where one had to know how to build or repair what ever was broken. When ever something needed to be done around the house he did the work, whether it was carpentry, electrical or plumbing he did the job.  As a way of making a few extra dollars, he would take small handyman jobs and as we needed to be with someone at all times, we would be there as well.  We were required to clean up and make sure all the tools were gathered before we left.
With little else to do, it became a game to watch what Dad did and learn.  Along the way, I learnd how to use all the carpentry tools, make electrical circuits, replace fixtures lights, frame, hang sheetrock ad so many other things as well.
