I'm Thankful I was Fired
How can a person be thankful for being fired? In my case, it was November 15, 2010, during the height of the recession shortly after the brokerage I was working for had a change in ownership. Our 2nd child had graduated from college earlier that year and our youngest had just started. My husband, general contractor, had been without work for 2 years and we were relying almost exclusively upon my salary as the desingated Principal Broker of a large Central Oregon brokerage to cover our bills. All credit lines for my husband's contruction company had been canceled, but we had scraped together enough money to personally finance a small spec home.  The day I planned to list the house (about 30 days before completion), I was terminated from my job. I left the office devasted.
But that afternoon, two agents from the brokerge came to visit me at my home.  They encouraged me to start my own brokerage. As I don't compete, I let them know we would have to have several more join us; they thought we could make this happen.
