Plumbing issues
We in Mississippi, like many other parts of the country are experiencing a drought. I learned about one of the side effects that I want to pass on to you. I received a call from a neighbor of one of my listings, saying that there was a leak in the front yard between the meter and the house. Obviously, with water standing in the yard and no rain, it was a leak. I called my plumber, after turning off the meter. Upon his arrival, he dug and found that the main water supply line was pulling loose from the meter. He repaired it and billed $422. I asked him what caused the problem, as I had never heard of this issue. His response was, "The drought". In certain soils, as they become dryer, they shrink, sometimes creating damage of one kind or another. It seems that he has had hundreds of similar repairs, some much more costly
The obvious preventative solution to this is to water your yard slightly during droughts. You will want to do this even though your plants and grass is dormant. There is no need to soak it, just enough to keep it slightly moist.
