The Annual Shanghai Parade in Lewisburg WV
 
On January 1, the Shanghai Parade in historic Lewisburg, WV. is the first parade of the season that has been going on since the Civil War.
This is a 150-year tradition when anyone can enter the parade and dress up in their own wacky costume and walk with many others in this unique, extemporaneous parade.
 
 
It was a sunny and warm day for a parade with temps in the mid 40s.  This annual New Year's Day parade featured colorful costumes and creative participants.  The streets were lined with families and friends enjoying a fun parade.
 
In previous years our fire chief, Wayne Pennington had dressed as the New Year's Baby for 20 years and has walked in the parade in sub-zero weather. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
This year, our mayor John Manchester, dressed as the New Year's Baby. Lucky for him it was 45 degrees and a sunny day.  These babies you don't want to see but once a year!!!
