As we were coming back from a site seeing day in Australia, we were stopped at a light when the bus driver commented on a building. His description was brief but the site was impressive.
The building was a residential tower called One Central Park. What made the building so unique was the verdant gardens that adorned the exterior of the building.
The building’s key features include hanging gardens, a cantilevered heliostat, an internal water recycling plant and low-carbon tri-generation power plant. One Central Park has been awarded a five-star green star by the Green Building Council Australia.
 
The gardens use a remote controlled, dripper irrigation system and a special process in which the roots of a plant are attached to a mesh-covered felt, soaked with mineralized water. This allows the plants to grow without soil along the face of a wall, a form hydroponic gardening
The building’s on-site water recycling factory and power plant are responsible for most of the water and energy savings, the gardens are a visible and tangible reminder of innovative green infrastructure.
