Marlin Oliver
Marlin Oliver Briscoe was born in Omaha, Nebraska back in 1945. He played high school football at Omaha South High School and at the Omaha University. In 1968, under head coach Lou Saban with the Denver Broncos.
With started Steve Tensi suffered a broken collarbone and the backup Joe DiVito didn’t do so well Lou called upon Marlin to play quarterback. On his first play, he completed a 22-yard completion. In 1969, he transferred to the Buffalo Bills never to play quarterback again in his career. He retired from football in 1976.
What you may not know about Marlin is that he was the first starting African-American to play quarterback in the ALF. He established a Denver rookie record of 14 touchdown passes that is still a record to this day. He holds one of only three rookie records for 300+ yard games in franchise history. He now resides in Los Angles where he works as a successful financial broker, dealing in municipal bonds. He is also the director of the Boys and Girls Club in Long Beach, California.
