13 Odd But True Events From April 3
What do the Pony Express, the Leadbeater's Possum and Martin Cooper of Motorola have in common? All 3 share an important anniversary on April 3rd.
If you’ve read my www.ActiveRain.com/Results blog, you know one of the pastimes I enjoy is learning new facts and interesting pieces of history.
While these interesting items pique my curiosity, they (usually) have nothing to do with my real estate business, which is helping people like you buy and sell homes in Silicon Valley, Calif. and beyond. I admit, learning new facts just adds fun and joy to my brain, soul and life.
1860 – The first successful United States Pony Express run from Saint Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, California begins.
1865 – Union forces capture Richmond, Virginia, the capital of the Confederate States of America.
1882 –Jesse James is killed by Robert Ford.
1885 – Gottlieb Daimler is granted a German patent for his engine design.
1888 – The first of 11 unsolved brutal murders of women committed in or near the impoverished Whitechapel district in the East End of London, occurs. It would later be attributed to serial killer “Jack the Ripper.”
1895 – Trial of the libel case instigated by author and playright Oscar Wilde begins, eventually resulting in his imprisonment on charges ofhomosexuality.
1922 – Joseph Stalin becomes the first General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.  
1961 – The Leadbeater's Possum, previously thought extinct, is rediscovered in Australia after 72 years. Also known as fairy possum, it is an endangered possum restricted to small pockets of remaining old growth mountain ash forests in the central highlands of Victoria (Australia) ... more
