Are you looking for a way to feel more connected and to make a difference, even while sheltering at home?

Reduce, collect, and compost your food waste! Was that a surprising suggestion? Reducing, collecting, and composting your food waste are great and easy ways to commune with nature, add nutrients to our soil, and reduce greenhouse gases.

Does that mean that you need to build and manage a compost pile in your backyard? You could do that (and there are lots of great online resources to get you started), but you don’t have to. You could have someone collect your food waste and compost it for you.

The Village of Winnetka staff recently identified three preferred providers of a bucket swap compost service. You can find them here on the Village’s website and decide which one you’d like to use: Home Composting Options.

Each of them is a little different and has different service areas. Check out their individual websites to see which one appeals to you. What they have in common is that they all provide a bucket with a lid, you fill it with your food waste, and they swap it out for ... more
