Rockfall Affecting Yosemite Lodging

The National Park Service will have to close a portion of a very popular lodging complex at Yosemite National Park, because of the danger of rockfalls.
The most recent rockfall was back on October 20th in Yosemite Valley's Curry Village.
The closure will affect about a 157,500 guests a year, according to a parks spokesman.  Cabins will be removed and a large area will be fenced off.  These are boulders, not little rocks that are falling.  And this area is where schoolchildren get hands-on education in history and earth sciences.
Curry Village has experienced more rockfalls than any other place since 1996 with 46 on record.  And since 1999 Curry Village has had structures directly hit 20 times.
A helmut won't work in these conditions!
