Strolling Down Memory Lane
The friendship and good vibes here at Active Rain remind me a little of the old REX forum on Compuserve.  REX stood for Real Estate Exchange, it was created by C.A.R. (California Association of Realtors) but brokers and agents from all over the USA  joined in the discussions.
And what was often the subject of those discussions back in '95 and '96 was RIN, Realtors Information Network, and the 12-15 million spent by NAR to develop a system that never got off the ground.  RIN was going to be a national, internet based network for realtors, with property listings and maps.  Hmmm. Listings. Maps. Sound familiar?
Looking back at RIN, it appears that people at NAR realized that the internet was going to be a "really big deal", and they wanted to do something to get a handle on the internet.  Somehow, they just didn't get it quite right.
I googled for RIN Realtors Information Network and found several articles are still available about it:

Some of the youngsters here will probably trip out reading about how things were in the "old days".
