Every community needs a great park. Luckily Las Cruces has several. My grandchildren have lots of energy, and it's great to take them to the park sometimes to let them run around and play. Every year I get my dose of bagpipes, flutes, and the Merry Court of Sherwood Oak at the annual Renaissance Arts Faire. If you missed it, mark your 2011 calendar now for the first weekend in November. Since 1971 the Las Cruces community gathers to celebrate the Renaissance. Around 200 rafts/interesting hulls participated in theSouthwest Environmental Center’s (SWEC) 13th annual Raft the Rio event on Saturday, June 12th. And more than a 1,000 people attended to cheer on their favorite pirate crew or outlaws, as they floated down the Rio Grande River. Last Sunday my family and I decided to take the dogs and the grand kids out for a little Easter Sunday outing, so we decided to go to Soledad Canyon. Soledad Canyon is a nice little spot just west of the Organ Mountains where a lot of people go to hike, mountain biking, horseback riding, or to simply soak-up some nature. Well, beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder, but this Monday, we went hiking at the Dripping Springs trail just 15 minutes outside of town and I can tell you that this oasis is certainly in the running.
