e coli: Private wells, "city water", and boil water notices - 08/25/08 12:33 AM
Here in Southwest Florida there has been some confusion regarding bacteria contamination of drinking water and  boil water notices.  Here's some general considerations for folks who have "city water" versus those who have private wells. 
For people who have water supplied by their municipality, it is usually a safe bet to listen to what the local Dept of Health has to say and follow their suggestions. If you have doubts about the quality of your water call a certified lab and have them test the water.

Okay....I know....pardon the sensationalist title, but this really is the topic of this blog entry, and it really is a  common issue (seriously). 
As a scientist who runs a state-certified water testing lab I see a lot of strange stuff while I am at client's properties.  One thing that I observe fairly often when I am doing a water test such as an FHA or lender water test is frogs living in the aerator tanks of houses with private wells.  Obviously this creates an unsanitary and unwanted situation that is pretty repulsive if you think about it...heck it's repulsive even if … (4 comments)
