Here in Southwest Florida there has been some confusion regarding bacteria contamination of drinking water and boil water notices. Here's some general considerations for folks who have "city water" versus those who have private wells. For people who have water supplied by their municipality, it is usually a safe bet to listen to what the local Dept of Health has to say and follow their suggestions. Okay....I know....pardon the sensationalist title, but this really is the topic of this blog entry, and it really is a common issue (seriously). As a scientist who runs a state-certified water testing lab I see a lot of strange stuff while I am at client's properties. One thing that I observe fairly often when I am doing a water test such as an FHA or lender water test is frogs living in the aerator tanks of houses with private wells.
