palm harbor fl localism: Palm Harbor's Magnificent Waterbirds - 04/04/12 11:56 PM
Palm Harbor does indeed have some magnificent waterbirds and I was able to photograph a few this week during our early morning walks.

Naturally, waterbirds love Wall Springs Park since they have over two hundred acres of natural preserve to enjoy and as the sun is coming up there are very few people around.

The spring fed waters are a favorite of various species of tropical and nontropical birds.

Many fish the estuaries as well, looking for their morning meal.

Living here along the Gulf Coast of Central Florida in the Palm Harbor area is indeed living … (12 comments)

palm harbor fl localism: Celestial Circle & The Witch's Brew In Palm Harbor Florida - 11/17/11 08:17 AM
Celestial Circle in old downtown Palm Harbor Florida is right next door to the Witch's Brew and my destination this afternoon.

I needed a special card for a friend and knew exactly where to head to find it.

While there, I decided to take a few photos to show everyone the fantastic metaphysical items that are carried at Celestial Circle. There were psychic readings taking place today as well.

From there I went next door (through the connecting French doors) to the Witch's Brew for a cup of vanilla ice cream and a few more photos.

palm harbor fl localism: Witchstock in Palm Harbor Florida & The Witch's Brew - 10/31/11 01:46 AM
Witchstock in Palm Harbor Florida is over for another year. I stopped by while Leslie Klein, owner of the Witch's Brew, was setting things up for the annual event.

Witchstock is always a lot of fun and everyone comes out for the event. This is just one of the many things I love about living just around the corner from Old Downtown Palm Harbor (yes, Crystal Beach is actually just around a bend in the road).

Although Witchstock is over, you can still stop by the Witch's Brew for a bottle of Vampire Blood red … (4 comments)

North Pinellas Children's Medical Center on US 19 N in Palm Harbor Florida is one of the best locations around for your sick little one.
Dr Janet Black is one of over a dozen pediatricians that work at North Pinellas Children's Medical Center. She is without a doubt loved by her little patients, as I see when I watch how she works with my little granddaughter when we visit the office.
There is no fear of going to the doctor when I mention that we are going to see Dr. Black. My granddaughter thinks Dr Black is funny, since she makes cute … (4 comments)

palm harbor fl localism: Wall Springs Park - Palm Harbor Florida - 08/23/11 12:14 PM
Wall Springs Park in Palm Harbor Florida and the land around it was originally owned by Charles Wall. Mr. Wall purchased the land in 1884 and it remained in his family's possession until 1927, when it was sold to Mr. Harry Davis.

The 210 acre park was used as a health spa and recreational area until the 1960's. In 1988 Pinellas County took over the land and has been adding to it ever since.
Today there is a boardwalk around the spring area where bathers used to enjoy the waters. The park service has installed numerous shelters with grill facilities … (6 comments)

palm harbor fl localism: More Stork Visitors - 08/18/11 11:25 AM
I had to share these photos of our local storks, which I took just this past week. I am always amazed at the wildlife that I find here in the Palm Harbor Area.

In this photo you have two herons and two storks. I am not sure what that one is doing with his beak open like that, but they sure are patient when it comes to allowing people to take their photos!

Just one more reason why I love living here in the Sunshine State!

palm harbor fl localism: The Thirsty Marlin Restaurant - Palm Harbor Florida - 07/28/11 03:11 AM
The Thirsty Marlin Restaurant in Old Downtown Palm Harbor is a wonderful place to dine and also a convenient location to meet with business associates. Located just east of Alt 19 at 1023 Florida Avenue, this restaurant is a local favorite - and no wonder why!

Personally, I love ordering nothing but appetizers and at the top of my list is the Bahama Mama Conch Fritters, followed closly by the Grouper Nuggets and the Cracked Conch! The Key Largo Calamari and the Tuna Sashimi are also wonderful!

Since The Thirsty Marlin is just a couple of minutes from where … (4 comments)

palm harbor fl localism: The Yogurt Spot of Boot Ranch Helps Beat The Heat - 06/16/11 05:49 AM
Yesterday was another hot day. It is June and we are in Florida, so it is supposed to be hot! That is why we live close to the shore, so we can take advantage of the sparkling waters of the Gulf of Mexico. But yesterday was not a day for the beach, instead it was a trip to the aquarium with my granddaughter, followed by a trip to Target for a new dress for the little princess and a few odds and ends that I needed to pick up.
We were both tired, hot and thirsty. So what did we do? … (8 comments)

The Thirsty Marlin Bar & Grill in old downtown Palm Harbor on Florida Avenue is the best place around for lobster quesadilla! That is what we had when we went there for dinner over the weekend! That and conch fritters! Nothing is better than fresh seafood!

Pictured above is the lobster quesadilla! The conch fritters, achi tuna and fries were starters and then it was on to the lobster! It was so much that even sharing a plate was more than we could handle!

Slickside was playing - although Jenna was home with the kids and Billy was … (5 comments)

palm harbor fl localism: Ozona Florida - Waterfront Living At It's Best - 01/27/11 06:43 AM
Ozona Florida is just down the street from where I live in Crystal Beach. Both communities are directly on the Gulf of Mexico and both offer absolutely wonderful housing opportunities! Imagine living either directly on the Gulf of Mexico or within a couple of blocks from the Gulf! What could possibly top that?

Living that close to the tropical waters of the Gulf of Mexico means not only mild winters but cool breezes during those hot summer months! While those in the interior of the state are melting due to the summer heat, there is always a breeze blowing here … (2 comments)
