louisville homes for sale: March with the Mutts in Louisville - 10/15/11 05:38 PM
If you love dogs and cats, your heart aches at the plight of homeless animals in Louisville.  Like many animal lovers, you might support the No Kill Louisville movement that promotes saving, neutering,  and finding homes for unwanted animals over euthanizing them. Caring for and finding permanent and temporary homes for abandoned or unwanted pets is costly, especially when then the animals come to shelters malnourished, sick, or disabled. If you want to support this great cause and speak out to promote the No Kill approach in all area shelters, it is not too late to participate in the Million Mutt … (2 comments)

louisville homes for sale: Buying Local Will Keep Louisville Weird - 10/09/11 09:14 AM
If you drive through the Highlands, you are undoubtedly familiar with the Louisville is Weird sign we mentioned in our last blog,Celebrate Fall in the Highlands. You may think that is a comment on the out-of the box city we strive to be, but the saying means something else
The slogan was put into our local vocabulary by LIBA, the Louisville Independent Business Alliance, though a couple other cities like Portland, OR and Austin, TX have used the slogan. LIBA’s goal is to promote buying local!
Why? Dollars spent at local business run by local merchants keep the money here. LIBA claims that their studies … (0 comments)

louisville homes for sale: Louisville Remembers the Rescue Dogs of 2011 - 09/10/11 08:37 AM
As Louisville remembers the events of 9/11/2001 this weekend, one commemoration is especially dear to my heart.  The Honoring the Animals Candlelight Vigil and Animal Blessing, sponsored by Chance’s Spot, Pet Loss, Support Resources, will pay homage to the rescue animals of 9/11, as it mourns with pet owners who have lost their pets.

Though few pets were lost during the 2001 attacks, about 400 dogs owned by civilian volunteers as well as police rescue dogs searched the remains of the Twin Towers at the Trade Center and at the Pentagon. The dogs helped first responders locate bodies so that … (0 comments)

louisville homes for sale: School Supply Help in Louisville - 08/06/11 08:41 AM
Oh my gosh! Where has the summer gone?  Louisville’s students will be returning to school on August 16.  As you have seen on recent commercials, parents have a long list of supplies to buy to prepare their kids for school, which can be overwhelming when times are tough.  As you know, Louisville is such a wonderful community  with so many organizations that dedicate their time and resources to help students and their families.  I thought I would do my part by spreading the word about the local help available to prepare for the big day.

A good starting point for … (2 comments)

louisville homes for sale: Congratulations Louisville - We Are Shaping Up! - 07/08/11 04:35 PM
You may remember my Time To Shape Up, Louisville blog that presented a pretty bleak picture of the health and fitness of Louisville's citizens.  Well I have some good news!  According to Sharon Spencer with the agriculture department, Community Supported Agriculture programs (CSAs) reflect a movement towards eating locally grown, healthy foods.
Louisville's residents can support their local farmers by signing up for CSA shares.
When you sign up at the beginning of a season, the farmer agrees to provide you with a share of their farm's fruits and vegetables for a set number of weeks.  Some farms also offer fresh … (1 comments)

louisville homes for sale: Home Staging: Tips for Louisville Sellers - 06/26/11 08:12 AM
I received a lot of comments on my I Hate That Color Blog. It was agreed that something as simple as the wrong color of paint can prevent the sale of a home.
In all my years as a Louisville Realtor®, I have learned many tips that can make your home more attractive to potential buyers.  Home Staging is simply making your home more appealing to buyers.  It is still a Buyers' Market, so Sellers must make their homes as presentable as possible.
Home staging can decrease the time your home is on the market and actually increase your selling price.
First, you need to make sure your … (3 comments)

louisville homes for sale: "Be Prepared" Louisville - A Motto Not Just For Scouts - 06/04/11 08:08 AM
You may remember the motto - "Be Prepared," from your time with the Boy or Girl Scouts. In Louisville, we should all take this motto to heart and make it a part of our lives.
As you know, Kentucky has a history that includes both floods and tornados.  These include the historic flood of 1937 and the devastating tornado of 1890.  There was not another major tornado in Louisville for 84 years until 1974, but that was a douzy.  Out of the eight states affected by this nation's second deadliest tornado outbreak this April, Kentucky fared much better than the other … (0 comments)

louisville homes for sale: A Time To Remember And Celebrate - 05/27/11 02:54 PM
Memorial Day weekend is here.  Is there any better time to personally thank all the military men and women who so bravely serve our country?  We also must extend a heartfelt thank you to their families who also sacrifice a great deal in the absence of their loved ones.  I was so glad to hear about the Joining Forces campaign  that is trying to make life a little easier for our military families.  There are ways that we all can help military families.  We may have missed this year's appreciation day, but just a simple "Thank You" can mean so very … (0 comments)

louisville homes for sale: I Hate That Color! - 05/24/11 01:29 AM
As a seasoned Realtor®, I can't tell you how many times I have heard that phrase.  I have finally found you that perfect Louisville home...you know, the one that meets all of your requirements.  I mean everything you asked for, even the fish pond in the backyard.  Yet, you don't want to write a contract.  Why? Because you hate the color of the house.  I have to spend hours convincing you that this is purely a cosmetic issue.
Oh, yes, this happens all the time.  Don't let something cosmetic keep you from purchasing your dream home.  Have the home inspected. If … (6 comments)

The last two weeks have seen the Midwest and the South devastated by one of the biggest outbreaks of deadly tornadoes we have seen in the last 37 years. It brings back haunting memories for many people in Louisville. In April of 1974 the Tornado Super Outbreak touched the lives of the people of Louisville in a very dramatic way. But out of the devastation, one Louisville neighborhood came back stronger than ever! There is hope for those communities that have been destroyed; may you find hope for rebuilding after the storm in the story of Louisville's Crescent Hill.
