You may be surprised to see that people are moving here from many parts of the US!
Relocating is a painless, anxiety-free experience that most people enjoy repeating over and over again. Much like a root canal. (Sigh...)  I know how hard moving can be on everyone in the family because I've been there and done that! Whether your move is across town or across the country, I have the experience and the patience to … (0 comments)

ouachita parish: Keep Your Fingers Crossed! - 06/29/09 01:51 AM
There's a COLD FRONT headed for northeast Louisiana--a real cause for celebration! Monday's high is predicted to be 94 degrees, according to The Weather Channel, and the low will be 66. That may sound high to you, but it's a welcome relief to those of us in Monroe and West Monroe who have been in sweltering heat for the entire month of June. We're hoping that this front will bring us a little rain. We haven't seen any raindrops since June 4.
Monroe's total rainfall this year is 21.6 inches, 8+ inches below average. Rain measurements at the Monroe airport found only 0.6 inches for … (0 comments)

ouachita parish: Not all news is good ;-} - 06/26/09 02:41 AM
OK, I realize I've written a lot lately about the good things happening in Monroe, West Monroe, Sterlington and other parts of northeast Louisiana. Today I'm going to be completely honest. The news isn't all good.  Reality: it's HOT here!
We've seen temperatures flirting with 100 degrees every day for more than a week with no rain during the month of June. Nighttime temps are very high, so there is little relief.  Sprinklers are working all over town, grass is getting crispy, and even the birds look thirsty.
My hat is off to all our friends working at Habitat for Humanity construction projects right now.  By … (0 comments)

ouachita parish: So, what's the market like in Monroe and West Monroe? - 06/10/09 06:16 AM
People ask me that all the time. When you watch TV, you're sure to think that the housing market sucks, and that is true for some areas of the US. But, not all parts of the country are experiencing plunging real estate values. Certainly not here in Ouachita Parish.
Home sales in Ouachita Parish for May, 2009 were slightly down from May, 2008, but the local market is still very stable.
For the first 5 months of 2009, local Realtors listed 733 homes and sold 443 at an average price of $148,052.  Buyers paid an average of 96% of list price for homes in the … (0 comments)

ouachita parish: FORECLOSURES in LA--Let's put this in perspective. - 11/14/08 01:40 AM
The numbers are in for October, 2008. We hear it on the news everywhere. You know the country is going to hell in a handbasket because you heard it on MSNBC, CNN, FOX, and all the other channels, right? Yes, the picture is dismal in several parts of the country, but let's compare the foreclosure rate in LOUISIANA.
According to RealtyTrac, Louisiana is ranked #41 in the number of foreclosures in the US. Here are the states at the top of the list for the month of October:#1 Nevada--1 in 74 homes are in foreclosure or default (total 14,483). This is a jump … (3 comments)

There will be more information coming out in the next few days but I'd like to take this opportunity to request help from each of you on behalf of the Ouachita Parish Police Jury.  By Tuesday and Wednesday, regardless of exactly where Gustav come ashore, Ouachita Parish will likely be on the northeast quadrant of the storm and experience heavy rains and extreme wind.  During the Month of … (1 comments)
