Happy Mothers Day Without going back so far in time, Mother's Day began in 1600's England on the fourth Sunday in Lent as Mothering Day.  However far flung her children were, they all trudged home one way or another to honor their mother and break their Lenten fast with special cakes and flowers.  Our Pilgrim forebears did not celebrate Mothering Day and it wasn't until after the Civil War that Julia Ward Howe began local groups of Mother's Day Remembrance in local churches.  It was actually Anna Jarvis who in an attempt to heal the war wounds on both sides held … (2 comments)
