Existing-home sales in North Carolina cooled for the third straight month in November while the average home price inched higher, according to statistics provided by the North Carolina Association of Realtors (NCAR).
There were 10,073 home sales recorded last month, off 4 percent from a year ago when 10,453 homes sold. However, year-to-date sales are 4 percent ahead of the same period last year. The statewide average sales price gained 1 percent to $217,615 in November from $214,718 a year ago, and was up from $213,599 in October.

Conditions for home buyers improved during the third quarter as existing single-family home prices in many metropolitan areas experienced corrections, and most states saw sales activity below a year ago which helped to build housing inventories, according to the latest quarterly surveys by the National Association of REALTORS.
Nationally, prices for existing homes declined in August compared with the same time in 2005. Although prices dropped less than 2%, it was the first decline in 11 years. Mike Moran, chief economist for Wall Street's Daiwa Securities America, Inc., says he's surprised that virtually nobody has challenged the constant drumbeat of negative headlines and TV news warnings of imminent crashes and home price meltdowns.
