Homeowners who do not pay their mortgage payment for 5 years can now celebrate! Why? Many homeowners have decided to let the system take over - to their advantage - and let the clock run out. Some lenders have failed to complete the foreclosure process within the 5 year time frame, resulting in owners staying and keeping their homes mortgage free. The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that a new trend is apparent; homeowners are paying the credit card before the mortgage. Historically, Americans protected their house payment and were more apt to be delinquent on credit card payments, said Charlie Wise, the company’s director of research and consulting. But crashing home values and desperation have caused that to flip since 2008.
