air duct cleaning: Dryer Vent Cleaning and Insulating your Dryer Vent for Energy Conservation - Arlington, VA - 01/06/09 05:49 AM
Your dryer vent is very important for releasing heat, moisture, lint and gas byproducts (if you have a gas dryer) from your home.  Keeping the dryer ducts and vent system clean ensures your dryer is operating efficiently; a clogged vent causes the dryer to work much harder, increasing energy usage.  So, a well maintained dryer vent system is important for energy consumption as well as fire safety, but what about the cold air it lets in during the cooler winter months?  Or the hot air during the hot summer months?

There is a product on the market called a Dryer … (4 comments)

air duct cleaning: The Wizard of Sterling, Virginia Says: “Dryer Vent Cleaning” Promotes Dryer Fire Safety and Saves on Energy Consumption - 09/23/08 06:59 AM
The clothes dryer is an appliance of both convenience and necessity for consumers today.  Clothes dryers are found in about 80 percent or over 81 million homes in the US.  Clothes dryers remove about ½ gallon of water from each load of laundry, which creates the lint that is found in the lint filter after each load.  Clothes dryers are one of the most expensive appliances in your home to operate, so it is important that they be properly maintained to reduce energy costs.

Dryer vent cleaning and maintenance are also important to reduce the risk of fire caused by … (0 comments)

air duct cleaning: "Dryer Vent Cleaning" Advice – Sterling, VA: Do you Know What is in Your Dryer Vent? - 09/22/08 04:33 AM
When is the last time you thought about your dryer vent? Few people realize the lint from your clothes ends up not only in the lint trap but also flows into the dryer vent where it accumulates over time. Highly combustible lint combined with excessive temperatures from the dryer is a recipe for a fire.

Dryer fires usually start beneath the dryer when the motor overheats. Overheating is caused by a build-up of lint in the duct that increases the drying time and blocks the flow of air. Other contributing conditions may include lint inside the dryer, a missing or … (4 comments)

Sterling, VA -- One particular September evening last year brought Karen King of Sterling, Virginia, and her family close to what could have become a devastating house fire. Karen was finishing up some household tasks, including drying her last load of clothes for the day. Fortunately for her and her family, she didn't let that last load go unattended.

Karen said that when she opened the dryer door, smoke came pouring out. She quickly closed the dryer door and called the fire department, who moved the two-year-old dryer out to the family's … (4 comments)

If you are good about making sure you remove the dryer lint before every load of laundry, you may be skeptical about the idea of having a professional cleaning of your dryer vents done every year.

It could be that when you pull the filter out there's not too much stuck to it. Besides, as long as you make sure it's clean all the time, the whole rest of the system must be clean too, right? Wrong!

The truth is there is a lot of lint that you don't see both in your dryer and in the line leading … (3 comments)

Be sure all heat-producing appliances run the way they are supposed to, including your clothes dryer
