This very popular educational fair, started in 2008, is sponsored by the California Association of REALTORS (C.A.R.) and the Los Angeles Times and will be held at the the Los Angeles Convention Center in downtown Los Angeles at 1201 S. Figueroa St., Los Angeles, CA 90015.

southern california: California - Land of Superfoods - 01/22/10 07:53 AM
California is a land of many things - fruit and nuts, as folks say jokingly, beaches, celebrities and celebrity wannabees, and agriculture.
We've all heard "you are what you eat," and with the increasing health awareness and the focus on diet this seems to be truer than many believe. And California, with the wealth of agricultural produce, is a great place to be for year-round fresh fruit, vegetables and more.
I read an interesting article recently in California Country magazine about Superfoods, foods which "have health benefits that go beyond basic nutrition," according to food expert and international superfood authority Clare … (11 comments)

southern california: Ice Skating in Southern California? You Bet You Can, in Coronado (San Diego) - 12/14/09 03:40 PM
Ice skating is likely NOT the first thing that comes to mind when you hear "Southern California," even in the winter. I think of Maine, Minnesota, Michigan, Massachusetts, and other non-M states that get REALLY cold. REALLY!
The Hotel Del Coronado, perhaps one of the most famous hotels in San Diego, offers folks the chance to ice skate outdoors overlooking the blue Pacific Ocean. Now what could be better than that? Palm tree...sand...ocean...ice skating at holiday time.
Ice Skating at The Del, as it's affectionately known, continues until January 3, 2010 on their 10,000 lawn. Well, not the lawn itself, of … (9 comments)

southern california: Speechless Sunday - Yes we DO Have Fall in Southern California - 11/22/09 02:03 PM

Some folks claim there is only 1 season in California. I beg to differ. Yep, not the dramatic changes we saw in New England BUT Southern California DOES have seasons, and the fall leaves (those that DO change) can be quite spectacular. Just sayin'. … (19 comments)

southern california: I Don't Mean to Question Your Lifestyle...But I Must!! - 10/29/09 01:20 PM
I'm sorry, but I don't mean to question your lifestyle, but I must.
Really, I have to in order to be helpful. It's not that I disapprove of your lifestyle and how you want to live your life - you certainly have the right to live the way you want - but since you are moving here to the Carlsbad area (or elsewhere in North San Diego County on or near the coast where I work) it's important that I know certain things about how you live.
Hopefully you will understand my nosiness and be comfortable sharing the way you like … (20 comments)

southern california: A Day Trip to Julian California - Apple Country in the Mountains - 10/20/09 05:12 PM
We took part of the day on Friday (on one of the most beautiful afternoons we have seen in a while, with temps in the low 90s due to the Santa Ana winds) to visit Julian California, about 50+ miles from Carlsbad in the mountains just outside the Cleveland National Forest.
Julian is an old gold rush mining town (there are still mines you can visit) and it retains much of the charm, the old homes and buildings, and the atmosphere of those times (there's even a couple of horse drawn buggies to enjoy).
At the same time, however, it has also … (29 comments)

southern california: Drop Cover Hold On - The Great California ShakeOut 2009 is October 15th - 10/13/09 11:35 AM
Earthquake preparedness is a serious matter, and California is once again demonstrating a commitment to making sure residents are prepared in the event of an earthquake.
The Great California ShakeOut 2009 is set for this Thursday, October 15th, at 10:15 am, with over 6.5 million already registered to participate in the largest earthquake drill ever (last year's event, the first, had almost 5.5 million taking part in drills at home, at work, in schools and a wide range of communities establishments).
Register to participate in the earthquake drill statewide, and be counted in the total of participants.
To make it … (12 comments)

southern california: Fall in Southern California - 09/25/09 05:31 PM
Fall is officially here in Southern California, bringing with it a host of changes in the weather, vegetation, and of course activities. While folks outside of California, particularly those in area that really experience the change of seasons, may think the weather is always the same here, the reality is that we experience changes too - they are just not as dramatic.
The mornings are cooler now, but it can still get warm during the day...into the 80s. In fact, late September and early October can be some of the hottest times because of the Santa Ana winds which bring warmer … (8 comments)

southern california: WHO Are Those Men and WHY Are They Just Standing Around? - 09/03/09 08:27 AM
You see groups of men (some times a total of 20 or 30) standing around the exit of the Home Depot in Encinitas, along Alga Road adjacent to the La Costa Green master planned community in Carlsbad near my house, and on Encinitas Boulevard at the shopping center just west of the I-5 freeway. Other areas, too, I imagine but this is where I normally see them. Every day (just about) all year, given our weather.
There are no signs or placards so it’s not a protest.
I wondered about this the first few times I noticed until my neighbor … (12 comments)

southern california: Visit Dana Point Harbor in Dana Point California - 07/25/09 04:30 AM
I highly recommend a visit to Dana Point Harbor in Dana Point California, after two recent trips, one for business, one for pleasure.

Dana Point Harbor seen from the Chat House Restaurant on the bluff
I enjoy taking day trips from Carlsbad to points of interest nearby, and with the freeways many interesting communities along the coast are but a short drive from Carlsbad. And exploring the other coastal towns brings a greater appreciation for the beauty of the area we live in, and the dramatic coastline.
Dana Point Harbor in Dana Point California is just north of San Clemente … (6 comments)

southern california: Undressing by the Side of the Road - 06/27/09 11:57 AM
That got you didn't it? And now you just have the read on...
It's a pretty common sight here in Southern California; folks undressing by the side of the road. Maybe it bothers you, maybe it doesn't. You may not give a hoot...which seems to be the case of many. Are you disappointed there are no pictures?

This is really for visitors and folks moving to the area, since Southern Californias already know this - the folks undressing by the side of the road are, of course, the surfers. Lest you think they are all running around the neighborhoods and … (9 comments)

southern california: A Tour of San Juan Capistrano, California: Home of the Swallows and a Famous Mission - 06/15/09 03:39 PM
San Juan Capistano is a moderately sized community of around 35,000 just inland from Dana Point and north of San Clemente at the southern end of Orange County, California.

A 35 minute drive (no traffic) from Carlsbad gets you to this charming historical town to enjoy the shopping, dining, and of the course the famous San Juan Capistrano mission. The town's collection of historical sites, buildings/homes, and artifacts in addition to the charm and beauty of Southern California makes a day trip very worthwhile.

Located just off the 5 freeway (and on both sides), the town is known … (6 comments)

southern california: Wall Art in Southern California - 06/13/09 02:32 AM

I've noticed that since carrying my trusty camera with me everywhere I go that I tend to notice so much more. Sometimes that's a good thing, but I can get easily distracted, and I probably drive the people I am with (not clients) nuts since I want to stop and take photos of everything. The best solution is my solitary journeys when out looking at property or running errands.
This is a small, but growing, collection of wall art I have found in my travels here in Southern California.

If you are in the Southern California region, particularly San Diego, Riverside, Orange or San Bernardino Counties, you have an opportunity to become a BPO and REO expert.
Certainly our region has many REO homes for sales, and more coming, especially in the inland regions.
Knowing how to appropriately deal with these properties, and market them effectively, can help you grow your business And perhaps you are also interested in learning how to actually hook up with folks who are looking for agent to manage these listings Maybe you are already handling some REOs but know you could do a better … (4 comments)

southern california: Early Morning Fog in Anza, CA - 04/24/09 06:10 PM
I left my house this morning at 6 Am for a meeting in La Quinta, in the desert near Palm Springs. I had my camera and could resist grabbing a fee pics on the trip out. This was near Anza, CA as the fog was lifting. The views of the farmland, amidst the fog, with the mountains in the distance, was worth the minute or so it took to pull over and snap the photo.

southern california: California Home Buyers Fair in Los Angeles This Weekend - 04/14/09 10:07 AM
Home buyers (and potential home buyers) in Southern California will have a terrific opportunity this weekend to gather lots of information about the home buying process, loans, dealing with credit issues, the importance of having a home inspection, and many other topics.
The Los Angeles Convention Center is, again, the site of the 2009 FREE home buyers fair on Saturday April 18 (from 10 until 5) and on Sunday (from 11 until 4). IF it is anything like last year's event you can expect thousands of folks stopping in for more than 50 educational seminars and multiple vendors in the real … (3 comments)

southern california: REBarCamp Los Angeles on April 2: A Day to Remember and a Wealth of Learning - 04/03/09 02:59 AM
I was at RE Bar Camp Los Angeles (a.k.a. #REBCLA for all you twits) in Pasadena, with lots of other folks - I was told the account was 298. Hard to believe it finally happened, as we began having discussions about this not long after REBlogWorld in Las Vegas in August 2007. The excitement was palpable, and there were so many people to meet...and undoubtedly not enough time to do so.
Check out Dakno.TV for archived sessions if you missed any of the streaming video they did.
Here is a short list (apologies to those I forgot) of the NEW people … (35 comments)

southern california: REBarCampLA 2009 Starts Off Just Right: Lively Happy Hour at The Yard House in Pasadena - 04/01/09 06:45 PM
It was a long day today, starting off with blogging, emails, an offer acceptance, setting up the SoCal CRS Booth for the SDAR REALTOR Expo and Member Appreciation Day (on April 2 in San Diego) and a 2.5 hour ride in traffic to The Yard House in Pasadena. Despite a few phone calls and having pay some attention to the heavy traffic, I had a chance to think about where I was headed, and to wonder about what I would find.
I haven't attended a Real Estate Bar camp before but have certainly paid attention to the posts and to streaming … (11 comments)
