joan bergstrom riverside ca mobile notary notary: Renewing CA Notaries Only - 03/24/10 06:19 PM
Yesterday I talked to the Calif. CPS (they administer the test for CA Notaries) and I was told that "renewing notaries" would probably not receive their commissions until 4 months after he/she take the test and pass.
I really recommend renewing notaries take the test 6 months before their commission expires.
At least half of the renewing notaries in my notary classes will have a 2-3 month period where their commission will be void.
This time frame (4 months) might get worse (this is my opinion only).

joan bergstrom riverside ca mobile notary notary: 2010 Mileage Rates - 12/04/09 04:01 PM
Beginning on Jan. 1, 2010, the standard mileage rates for the use of a car (also vans, pickups or panel trucks) for business will be: 50 cents per mile for business miles driven .
Be sure you record very careful documentation for every Notary/Loan Signer appointment you take.
Remember the mileage includes, for instance, when you pick up letter/legal size paper at Costco/etc.
You can always keep track of you expenses that you actually experience and keep track them of them item by item.
I am not a tax expert and just trying to be helpful.

joan bergstrom riverside ca mobile notary notary: No New Law Changes for CA Notaries in 2010 - 11/09/09 04:01 PM
For the first time in many years CA Notaries will not have to learn any new Notary Public laws for 2010!Yeah!  We have had so many changes since 2005 that it is nice to have a year where there aren't any new CA Notary laws.

joan bergstrom riverside ca mobile notary notary: Never Assume Email Loan Documents Arrive In The Correct Order - 05/23/09 06:43 PM
Thursday, May 21st I had 2 loan signing assignment from the same  company: one at 3:00 PM and one at 6:30 pm.The 3:00 pm assignment was at the last moment and the company wanted to know if I could get to the signing immediately, and I said yes, I thought I could get there by 3:30 pm.Not a problem.I print the docs and get to my appointment by 3:45 pm and discover the documents were for my 6:30 pm appointment. I never looked at the name and printed the docs and  assumed the docs were for the 3:00 pm appt. This happened to me a … (1 comments)

joan bergstrom riverside ca mobile notary notary: New 2009 Notary Law Changes - 01/11/09 08:13 AM
The new CA 2009 Handbook came out a few days ago with the number of CA Notaries declining by approximately 32,000 from the beginning of 2008. There will probably be a steeper decline in 2009 unless the housing market turns around. One of the CA law changes is the use of a CA state, city, county I.D. badge to identify the signer.  I think this will be helpful when dealing with government people; I know it did for me last week.I met a client at a Riverside County health office and the official I had to notarize used his County badge as I.D. … (7 comments)

joan bergstrom riverside ca mobile notary notary: Notary/Loan Signing Work in the Inland Empire (CA) in 2008 - 08/28/08 05:20 PM
One of my Notary friends and I compared assignments today. We both work in the Inland Empire and between us we had 6 assignments.
She had 3 loans at  a title office (all foreclosure purchases for 1 borrower) and 1 trip to a jail.
I had 1 loan signing and 1 structured settlement annuity.
My friend was hired by a local signing company and she asked me if the amount she agreed to was okay?
I said she should have gotten more money; but, we are all going through difficult times in CA and I would have taken the amount she was offered.
My situation wasn't much … (2 comments)

joan bergstrom riverside ca mobile notary notary: How is Everyone doing in CA with their Bluetooth Earpiece? - 07/06/08 05:24 PM
It has been a struggle for many of my business friends and associates.  Some don't like the earpiece in their ear. Some just don't want to deal with anything new!
I have had an earpiece for over 3 years and I love it.
One suggestion is not to pay very much money for a Bluetooth ear piece.  I have tried  many of them over this last 3 years and the cheaper ones seem to  work as well as the expensive ones.
