Happy Thanksgiving! If you are new to town and looking for something to do.... or maybe it's already your Thanksgiving tradition.... here's what's happening in Aiken!
First up: Bloodies and Bagels, - exactly what it sounds like, haha - enjoy bloody mary's and bagels (with different cream cheese spreads available, too!) There is no charge to attend, but donations gladly accepted :) you can even join as a member. where: on the lawn at the Aiken Historical Museum, 433 Newberry Street SW hosted by: Aiken Land Conservancy when: 9am

So much to do on Thanksgiving Day in Downtown Aiken, South Carolina. Start your morning with Bloodies & Bagels, mix and mingle with the Aiken Land Conservancy members, maybe even become a member yourself! Enjoy the bagels with all the schmears, and bloodies to get your morning started. THEN>>>>>>>..... walk down into Hitchcock Woods, and join the crowd at Memorial Gate (it's about a 1/2 mile walk, be prepared!) Looking for something to do Thanksgiving morning --- or maybe you have been part of these events for years and have made it your family tradition as well!
First up: Bloodies & Bagels - (4th annual!) Hosted by the Aiken Land Conservancy, Held at the Aiken Co Historical Museum Newberry/South Boundary . 9am -11am.
Second on the list: After Bloodies and Bagels, continue on into Hitchcock Woods for the annual Blessing of the Hounds. If you are new to the area you may not be aware of all the traditions for Thanksgiving. You may adopt some or all as new traditions of your own! Check it out: For over 90 years, the Aiken community has come together on Thanksgiving morning at 11am for the Blessing of the Hounds. thanksgiving: A beautiful Thanksgiving Morning - in The Woods

Thanksgiving Morning in Aiken is a special day. Many of the townspeople flock into our Hitchcock Woods for the Blessing of the Hounds. Held every Thanksgiving morning at Memorial Gate. This year marks the 94th year of the Aiken Hounds :)
My daughter and I experienced it together this morning. It was indeed a beautiful day. The foxhunters drink wine from stirrup cups before the hunt. I don't know the significance of this - but it is something that foxhunters do before they head out on the hunt.
