The Lake Oconee Community Church reached out and accepted a pastor named Kamau Welcher to serve as minister for students and families. Originally from Augusta, Welcher earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Morehouse College and a master of divinity from Emory University’s Candler school of Theology. At Morehouse, he received the Ronald E. McNair NASA full scholarship and served as the chaplain for the Student Government Association. Welcher served as director of young adults at Green-forest Community Baptist Church, Decatur. He also was a staff chaplain at Wesley Woods Geriatric Hospital of Emory University. MetLife is the new buyer for Reynolds Plantation, company officials have announced. Reynolds employees, property owners and members were notified Wednesday, according to Reynolds’ officials. MetLife will buy the Ritz-Carlton Lodge, six golf courses, four marinas and nearly 5,000 acres of undeveloped golf and waterfront property. The sale is expected to be completed during the summer. Terms of the sale were not disclosed. The impending sale was disclosed three weeks ago by the court-appointed receiver for Reynolds, but the buyer was not announced until Wednesday. MetLife has reached an agreement to purchase Reynolds Plantation , the luxury home and golf community about 70 miles east of Atlanta. The acquisition will include The Ritz-Carlton Lodge, six championship golf courses, four full-service marinas and nearly 5,000 acres of undeveloped golf and waterfront property, MetLife said.
