The Uncle Remus Museum in Eatonton, Georgia is near and dear to my heart. It's not just a place you should visit or a book you should read for me... for me... it's a personal journey. I remember a time when I heard my mother say something about it making her feel "old" when all the baseball players were younger than her. It was a while ago, because now they are all younger than me. And When I look at his young man who was born March 19, 1989 which was after my daughter I can't help but think of him as a kid. It's been a very busy week. Inspection to schedule, just "one more thing" requests from a buyers agent all week which leads me to today's story. I have a listing in a subdivision that has covenants that were recorded prior to when my county began to put deed records on the on line system. So this morning I stopped by the office and picked up my copy of the deed and headed to the court house to photocopy those pages. Did you see the movie The Color Purple? Did you read the book? The wonderful and famous Author, Alice Walker, was born right here in Putnam County where beautiful Lake Sinclair is located. Alice Walker, author of the award-winning novel "The Color Purple," was born in Eatonton on February 9, 1944. She was the eighth and youngest child of sharecroppers Willie Lee Walker and Minnie Tallulah Grant. I love Christmas and what a way to kick off the season with the arrival of none other than Santa at the Christmas Parade. Downtown Eatonton will be alive with lights and crafts and generally you will find someone selling hot coco. The court house tree lighting will take place and stay for the movie. The forecast looks great and I think it should be a great night for a family outing.

Let me start by saying I love this place. The Plaza in Eatonton Georgia that has just be renovated and now the location of the Eatonton-Putnam Chamber of Commerce and many outdoor events and concerts all summer long holds much special meaning for me. You see, it was the grammar school that not only I attended, but my mother as well. Right out where the "parties" now happen at the plaza was where I used to swing, have recess, got my first kiss, climbed high on the monkey bars. The first time I went to 4-H camp I remember being a little disappointed that it only took us 15 minutes on the bus to arrive at Rock Eagle. WHAT?!?!?! This is right by my house... are you kidding me. Then I really had a great time and home seemed a million miles away. Then about 25 years later my own daughter was headed off to "Rock Eagle" 4-H camp. She came home and had made far away pen pals throughout the state just as I always had.
