A Downtown Hickory Holiday ~ Thursday, December 10, 2009  
Downtown Hickory will be glowing with holiday lights and alive with the sounds of Holiday music. The festivities will take place throughout downtown Hickory from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

       
Activities include:     tractor pulled wagon rides through downtown
    holiday tunes from The Original King Street Jazz Band
    classic carols from the Suzuki School of the Arts, as well as other performers
    Santa will be here to listen to the Christmas wish lists of girls and boys of all ages

Hickory Announces its Fall Loose Leaf Pick Up Season
The City of Hickory will begin its leaf collection on November 9, 2009 and will continue until January 15, 2010. The City of Hickory offers curbside collection of leaves, which is one of the many services provided.
Each collection area of the city will have two pickups, and time allotted in each area is based on the number of mature trees and size of each collection area.

Hickory won an honorable mention in the inaugural United States Tennis Association's (USTA) 2009 Best Tennis Town USA competition.
The three communities that received the most votes are Midland, MI, Ojai, CA, and Independence, KS. 
On September 6 during the US Open in New York, the three top vote getters will find out if they are the Grand Prize ($100,000), Second Prize ($50,000), or the Third Prize ($25,000) winner.

Catawba County Animal Services will continue a series of Rabies Vaccination Clinics for 2009
All clinics will be held on Saturdays. The Catawba County Animal Shelter is also now providing one year rabies vaccinations to pet owners year round, by appointment.
"North Carolina law states that, in all counties where a campaign of vaccination such as our clinics is being conducted, it is the duty of the owner of every dog and cat over four months of age to have them vaccinated for rabies. The seemingly endless rainfall and resident dilligence with the water restrictions has finally lifted the almost two year drought in the Catawba Valley.
The Catawba-Wateree Drought Management Advisory Group (CW-DMAG), which includes Hickory, announced that steady improvement of groundwater and streamflow conditions moved the Catawba River Basin's drought conditions to normal, which means that all water restrictions are lifted. 
Hickory, along with the CW-DMAG will continue to monitor the Catawba River Basin to see if the basin continues in normal conditions or falls back into a drought as summer arrives, which is highly dependent upon future rainfall patterns. The 2007-2009 … (0 comments)
