blogging: Does Your Image Need A Make-over? - 11/22/10 02:33 AM
Last night I was flipping channels back and forth from the American Music Awards and.......(your guess)
Recently I bought Taylor Swifts new CD, Speak Now (which I love). When Taylor Swift came on to perform....I should say came down...from the stage on a piano singing my favorite song (Back to December) I was excited my channel flipping worked.
Regardless she had a brand new look, long straight hair, different tone and looked amazing.
But, her Voice was just as amazing.
So what does this have to do with Real Estate?
I mean this is a real estate community right? And we … (78 comments)

blogging: Give People A Reason To Connect to You, Help People Connect With You - 08/03/10 02:56 PM
People want to know who you are and not "just" what you know.
Been pondering this lately...thinking about blogging, social media...
Wondering why when you give a status update on Facebook that is personal..."I ate at ______tonight", or "I went to ___" you get more comments than when you give a real estate or quote update.
Blogging is a window to your soul. Think for a minute of who you follow faithfully on Activerain, Twitter or Facebook. Think of all the comments that come flooding in when you write a post here that shows a bit of your personality, trials, or … (104 comments)

blogging: This has happened to me Twice in a Week - 06/13/09 02:06 AM
This week I was backing out of my drive-way and I got a phone call.
"What time does the Saline Rec Center open today?"
Pardon me...
"This is the Saline Recreation Center, isn't it"?
No, did you read something about Saline Recreation Center and it had my name on it?"
"Yes"
Fortunately I knew the number of Saline Rec by memory and gave it to him.
Yesterday, I got another one.
"Hi, can I book a table to the SideTrack Bar and Grill for Happy Hour?"
Pardon me...
"I want to book a table for the SideTrack for Happy Hour, what … (35 comments)

blogging: Going The Extra Mile, Taking a Few More Minutes... - 04/28/09 11:52 PM
When was the last time you went the Extra mile?

I'm sure most of us would say, "Everyday".
We do it all the time for our clients and families.
Here is a little tip for blogging, to go that extra mile.
Add a photo to your post at least most of the time Link to some anchor text if you are referencing a post, a school, a new technology tip. Don't just tell us about it. It only takes a few minutes more of your time to engage your readers and make your posts more readable.

blogging: Tech Savy Realtors - 04/17/09 06:31 AM

I like this quote, not sure where I got it, but have had it saved in my files for awhile. When I first got into the business, the buzz word was realtors were not going to be around anymore. That was scary just starting my career. Now we have found that the internet doesn't replace us at all but those agents that use the internet ARE replacing those that don't.
Look around your communities and see if that is not true ! I know some agents that are still using AOL for their email and rarely check it.
What's a … (75 comments)

blogging: "The No Spin Zone" - 09/23/08 10:31 PM
Are you who you say you are?  When I first started blogging in 2006, it didn’t take long to figure out a few blogging buzz words. One of those words was transparent, or transparency.
Transparency, as used in the humanities, implies openness, communication, and accountability. It is a metaphorical extension of the meaning used in the physical sciences: a "transparent" object is one that can be seen through.
Can your readers see the real you?
Transparency in real life is about Trust.
Transparency in the blogosphere is also about Trust.
Are you who you say you are in … (111 comments)

blogging: So Ya Want to be a Writer ( Blogger) - 09/13/08 12:58 AM
Writing Blogging is hard work, for those who take the task seriously. Writing done right can be energizing and rewarding .  Anyone can throw up a post of words, copy a topic over and over again, to earn points or gain Google Juice.
Maya Angelou said, "The idea is to write it so that people hear it and it slides through the brain and goes straight to the heart."
Freidrich Nietsche said, "Of all writings I love only that which is written with blood. Write with blood: and you will discover that blood is spirit."
Anais Nin, "We write to taste life twice, … (10 comments)

blogging: The Long Tail in Blogging Worked - 05/03/08 11:37 AM

Are gas prices effecting your business ? I wrote a post the other day on my Ann Arbor Real Estate Talk blog. That was the question I asked ? The Ann Arbor News picked up the post and called me for an interview. They are doing a piece tomorrow, Sunday on how gas prices are effecting different industries in the Ann Arbor Area.
So speaking of that long tail.......................
She asked me if she could put in my blog link?
Of course, I was thrilled.
Hopefully it will drive me more traffic.  The point is it was the long tail that got me found. … (56 comments)

blogging: "This is the results I want" - 01/16/08 08:26 AM
Today in my Inman News was this video,(attached below) of Brian Brady and Dustin Luther speaking at the Inman Connect Conference in N.Y.
It was on blogging, what else...
We hear a lot here on Activerain about how to blog, what to blog, finding your voice, blah, blah, blah...
But, this video is NOT on that, the video is primarily on the long tail of blogging. It starts out with a question and continues throughout the video on how to build YOUR community by blogging, BEFORE the "big boys" figure it out and jump in. Who are the 'big boys"?
The debate is really … (39 comments)

blogging: I'm Flipping Out - 11/06/07 09:51 AM
I'm flipping out........
Ok, not really but I do have random thoughts and musing going on in my head. I had two calls today to be interviewed. The first call was from Andrew Gmerek, RE/MAX Times, Associate Editor. RE/MAX Times is a quarterly newspaper that is published in 15 countries. He wanted to speak with me about technology.
"Who me? Everything I know, for the most part I learned on Activerain."
Andrew, "We all read your blog here and I just found you on Facebook".
Missy, "Did you friend request me?"
Andrew, "No not yet, I just signed up."

blogging: Activerain Milestone for Blogger in Ann Arbor, MI - 10/05/07 11:08 AM
Milestones are markers that we can look back on and see how far we have come and where we still want to go. As a mother, I kept milestones of when my babies, turned over, crawled, walked, said their first word, cut their first tooth.

I have a passion for new Activerain members just learning to blog. I was on the phone last night with an agent wanting to know how I … (110 comments)

blogging: Why I Love These Little Guys - 08/05/07 01:24 PM
Before I did this little post, I went to the Activerain Search and typed in Widgets. I wanted to make sure the information was not already out there about this. I did find tons of posts on widgets but none that really talked about what I wanted to say. However, they are all worth reading.
Widgetbox is a really fun site which has hundreds of widgets you can import to you Activerain or outside blog.
Some of you are asking?
What the heck is a widget ? I'm just learning to blog and now a widget.
A widget is a mini-application that you … (107 comments)

blogging: Blog Tour in Michigan, July 14th 2007 - 07/14/07 11:50 AM

A day with Rudy, Joe, ( of Sellsius ) Maureen Francis and Black Tie Todd in Birmingham, MI was so much fun. We had a great time, Birmingham was in the midst of all the sidewalk sales so we walked down the street and Rudy with his video camera and Joe doing the interviewing........we stopped people on the street and asked them, if they were having fun? When we were able to engage them in a conversation we asked them if they knew what a blog was ?
Although NOT scientific by any means we were surprised how many people don't know … (44 comments)

blogging: Violating Can-Spam Act Can Cost You Up to $11,000. - 05/21/07 01:39 AM
The Can-Spam Act covers advertising through email your products and services. Here is a summary:
The CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 (Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act) establishes requirements for those who send commercial email, spells out penalties for spammers and companies whose products are advertised in spam if they violate the law, and gives consumers the right to ask emailers to stop spamming them.
