I have lived in Newark, Ca. since 1976. My wife and I bought a newly constructed home at the end of the Dumbarton Bridge linkage between the mid-Peninsula and Southern Alameda County. What we did know was that homes in Newark, Fremont, Union City, Hayward, San Leandro, San Lorenzo and all to way to Livermore and Pleasanton were less expensive than comparable homes in Santa Clara County and San Mateo County. And, while (19 comments)

Realtor.com used the performance of the Dow Jones Industrial Average in January of the last 49 years to draw this conclusion. The poor stock market performance this January points to a Bronco’s victory according to the handicappers at Realtor.com.

In March the Newark market turned around. Buyers decided to buy but inventory had dropped drastically. Since then inventory has continued to be very low and has been getting lower. At the same time, demand by buyers has remained strong. The result: multiple offers and rising prices in the Newark real estate market.
It was certainly fun to see a national T.V. show that gave exposure to Fremont and Newark.
House Hunters filmed an episode in our area – Fremont, Newark, Ca. – and it aired last Tuesday. I don’t normally watch the show but how could I not when the buyers were looking in Fremont and Newark where I spend most of my time. Thanks to my daughter for alerting me to the upcoming show in time to schedule it on my DVR. The buyers looked at three properties within their $450,000 budget. They looked at two houses in Newark and (2 comments)
