atlanta: Project Playhouse - 10/17/07 02:52 AM

National home builder builds little house for big cause
This summer, Ryland Homes started thinking on a little bit of a "smaller" scale as members from its Atlanta regional office put their experience building dream homes into building The Giddy-Up General Store for HomeAid Atlanta's Project Playhouse.  Inspired by the Old West, the 8 X 10 playhouse will be one of seven displayed at the Mall of Georgia this fall and auctioned in a Mini-Mansion Fundraiser on Saturday, October 20.
Guests enter The Giddy-Up General Store through its double front doors, which resemble doors from Wild West salons. Western themes adorn the … (1 comments)

atlanta: Atlanta - - AARP say it's a great place to live - 09/09/07 10:57 PM
I turned 49 this year.  Guess who is sending me tons and tons of emails and information.
Yep, AARP!

I'm even getting stuff in snail mail to sign up for insurance plans.  The letters that come with these offers say....  Now that you're 65....    WHOA!
Anywho.....   an article that I read in the AARP online magazine names Atlanta as one of 5 great places to live.
That makes me happy. .  More people moving here to retire....   More of their families following them.... More people to sell houses to......
Yep, I'm definitely happy.

atlanta: Can a community's walkability affect obesity rates? - 09/07/07 06:10 PM
Is there a connection between land use and obesity?  Lawrence Frank, a University of British Columbia researcher, seems to think so.
Researchers say there is a need for more exercise-friendly places to live.  It appears that these are in older neighborhoods, located in more urban areas.
The article, titled Exercisers Stuck in Unwalkable Settings, also says "some people can't afford housing in walkable neighborhoods, where homes can cost up to three times as much as similar housing in non-walkable areas."

atlanta: A little humor. - 09/01/07 07:28 AM
When Fred found out he was going to inherit a fortune when his sicklyfather died, he decided he needed a woman to enjoy it with.
So one evening he went to a singles bar where he spotted the most beautiful woman hehad ever seen. Her natural beauty took his breath away."I may look like just an ordinary man," he said as he walked up to her,"but in just a week or two, my father will die, and I'll inherit 20 million dollars."Impressed, the woman went home with him that evening and, three dayslater, she became his stepmother. (Women are just so much … (17 comments)

atlanta: What do Realtors Carry in the Trunk of Their Car? - 08/31/07 09:20 AM
My husband laughs when he looks in the trunk of my car.    I just tell him that a good Real Estate Agent is a Prepared Real Estate Agent.
I have my "Real Estate" box in the trunk.  The box is filled with a few gallon bottles of water and several rolls of toilet paper.

I deal with a lot of empty foreclosed houses.  Most of them have no utilities turned on and are very dirty and nasty.  If I have to spend any amount of time at one of these houses, 9 out of 10 times, (it never fails) I have … (32 comments)

atlanta: LINKS!!! New Window? Same Window? What's your preference? - 08/31/07 12:04 AM
When you highlight text to insert a LINK to that text in your blog, there is a drop-down box marked TARGET.
The drop-down gives you 2 options.
One is to "Open link in a new window".
The other is to "Open link in the same window".
My preference when clicking on YOUR link, is that it opens in a new window!  I like having my AR window available for me to go back to while at te same ime, keeping the window at I just 'linked' to open, too.
What's your preference?
Sorry ... I'm not tech savy enough to put a picture of the LINK window … (17 comments)

atlanta: What's Hot? What's Not? Preparing to Sell Your House - 08/30/07 12:28 PM
According to Real Estate author Mark Nash, what was "in" yesterday is "out" today.  He suggests more popular trends for 2007 when making improvements to your house before you sell it.

Ceramic bathroom tiles are out!  Folks seem to like the shiny glass tiles these days.
Granite countertops?  Nope.  Mark says people want something a bit less costly.
Bamboo floors... they're not as durable to other types of flooring.
To see what else was suggested, the entire article can be read at MSN.com

atlanta: Is your Email Address SEO? - 08/29/07 10:53 PM
It's taking me a while to get with the program, but I'm trying.
I finally bought a domain name.
It's roswellgarealestateagent.com.  I just have to get a host site to put it up on now.  But while I'm checking out host sites, I'm thinking about my email address.
Right now it's nancyjaye@gmail.com.  Mom likes it cause it's my given name but is it SEO????   Nope.
My email address needs to be in sync with my web site, right?    My thoughts are that it has to change.  I've set up a new email address - a couple of them.  RoswellGaRelator@gmail.com and roswell_ga_realtor@yahoo.com.

atlanta: Foreclosure Expert????? - 08/28/07 05:51 AM
Last week I got a pone call from Ed McCarthy, A CNNRadio correspondent.  He wanted to interview me and ask me about why I thouht there were so many foreclosures on the market.  I don't think that he is convinced that all the foreclosures out there today are due to sub-prime laons.  I agreed wih him and gave him several other reasons why homes might be foreclosed on.
Divorce - One income where there once was two.
Job Loss - Loss of income, again.
Death of a spouse.  Or death of the sole home owner - I've seen homes forclose because the family of … (3 comments)

atlanta: It's happening in East Cobb (Georgia)- Is it happening where you live? - 08/21/07 09:18 PM
It seems that there is a trend in East Cobb County (Georgia).  Older homes are being knocked down and McMansions are replacing them.
This is happening because there is no vacant land in East Cobb County.  These ‘teardown-replacements have sold for more than $1 million'.
Quoted from an article in the AJC......................"There is no vacant land in East Cobb," he said. "People want the [Walton High] school district, it's convenient to everything, and it's hot even though the rest of the housing market has cooled down."
In east Cobb, he added, the prices that builders are paying for homes they plan to … (4 comments)

atlanta: My Poochie - 08/16/07 10:45 PM
<-- This is my Freecycle Poochie Neisa.
I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with FREEYCLE.  It's a YAHOO group that allows you to post "offers" and "wants" to your area of town.  It's designed to keep your junk out of land fills by giving your stuff away instead of throwing it in the trash or hauling it to some place that will sell it for you.
Anyway.....  Almost 3 years ago, and very soon after my beloved dog Chester died, I was listing some stuff out on Freecycle that I wanted to give away and I came across a … (12 comments)
