Sangria - usually people think of Sangria as being cheap red wine with some soda in it, but it is much more than that, especially if you have ever been to Spain and enjoyed it there. As I mentioned last week, it is often drunk through the hot summer months and can be refreshing or even a stronger drink as I will discuss below.

Usually red, using red wine, it can be mixed with seltzer water if the wine is very sweet or a lemon lime soda, and oranges and lemons are usually steeped in the wine ahead of time … (6 comments)

What is your first thought when you order wine? Red or white correct? But in Europe many people drink Rose, with an accute e, when it is hot. In America we have the misnomer of white zinfandel which is actually like  a rose, but much sweeter. Last year I also saw some white merlots which are similar.

I first tasted rose as a kid in Portugal drinking Mateus Rose, great flagon shaped bottle, you can get it over here. Not sure if it was that I was allowed wine by my parents or the shape of the bottle that I … (2 comments)

This past week I tried a couple of new wines for Wine Down Wednesday.
This first wine is a Sonoma  County white wine from Cucina Viansa not sure if a friend brought this over or if I had bought it a little while ago. We discussed last week how a wine can weigh on your tongue and this was very light, had some fruit flavours but nothing deep or dramatic that left a real memory or would cause me to go out and … (1 comments)

So you are probably reading this whilst I am out enjoying Happy Hour with my office at The Paddock In Devon today and hopefully able to try out some different wines. But this week, I got to try out another Viognier, this one
from Cougar Crest Estate Winery in Walla Walla Valley, sounds like it should be Australian, bit it is actually West coast Washington State. This is the 2007 vintage. As you may remember i had a bottle of the Cline Winery Viognier last week and to be honest was underwhelmed. This had much more flavor, way more fruit on … (3 comments)

Last week I focused on some great wines that I tried at the Seven Mountains Wine Cellars near State College, this week I want to mention a good wine I drank from California, another Carneros region wine, which  did not know till I did a little research for this article. It was from Cline Cellars in Sonoma California a 350 acre winery. Most of the Viogniers I have tried before have been French from the Rhone area, and I generally like this type of wine as it tends to be quite full of fruit without being cloyingly sweet. This California wine did … (1 comments)
