The Southern Environmental Law Center, representing Defenders of Wildlife and the National Wildlife Refuge Association, will withdraw its legal challenges against building a parallel replacement to the Bonner Bridge.
Joined by state officials, Southern Environmental Law Center representatives and a … (0 comments)

hatteras island: The Fight To Save Hatteras Island Beaches From Being Closed Forever - 09/07/10 07:07 AM
Many of you might not know that for the last few years the residents of Hatteras Island and all of us on the Outer Banks have been fighting to keep the beaches on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore open to the public. For over 100 years residents and tourists alike have enjoyed open access to all of the beaches along the Cape Hatteras National Seashore from just north of Oregon Inlet the tip of Ocracoke. Those beaches provide some of the best surfing and surf fishing found anywhere along the east coast. Now the highly connected and deep pocketed Audubon Society and a … (0 comments)

hatteras island: Corolla Ship Wreck Being Moved To The Graveyard Of The Atlantic Museum On Hatteras Island - 07/19/10 04:18 AM
You may or may not know that the waters off the Outer Banks from Corolla to Hatteras is known as the Graveyard of the Atlantic. Many of those wrecks have been found and documented however there are some that just rise up out of the sand after hurricanes or nor-easters that know one has ever seen before. … (0 comments)

hatteras island: Public Access to Cape Hatteras National Seashore Beaches On The Outer Banks Under Attack - 04/15/10 07:40 AM
For the last few years the Outer Banks has been under attack from a group of well funded and connected evniromentalist that want to close all public access to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. All of this over a bird, the Piping Plover, which is not endangered by the way. The Piping Plover has thrived on the Outer Banks long before the environmentalist turned the Plover into their poster child for getting the beaches closed. So far they have prevailed in getting the beaches partially closed throughout most of the year. For over 100 years the public has had free access to drive out onto Seashore beaches to fish, surf, or … (0 comments)
