illinois: Not everybody goes to college after high school - options in Evanston - 02/05/12 05:06 AM
The local high school here in my hometown of Evanston, Illinois, is not only supporting, but improving upon its program for students that prepares them for a career in (drum roll, please, for this trade that keeps us Realtors on the roads and byways as we serve our clients!) Automotive Technology.
According to a recent story in the "Evanston RoundTable" newspaper, a high school alum and his family have gifted the Auto Tech program $100,000 to improve the offering, a move that resulted in the high school's being accredited as an Automotive Service Excellence school (ASE) through the NATEF (National Automotive … (1 comments)

illinois: The Illinois Legislature - Two Problematic House Bills - 04/15/11 05:03 PM
Illinois, where I live outside of Chicago, it admittedly one of the worst States in the nation for foreclosure activity and short sales. It's becoming a way of life for real estate agents here, working through these hard times for our clients.
Beyond the homeowners and would-be purchasers, of course, the communities where these distressed sales (or lack thereof) are happening are ALSO having to cope with unprecedented property woes. The property tax base is eroded, abandoned or foreclosed properties are a blight on the neighborhoods, and the communities and the State are looking for ways to quell some of the … (3 comments)

illinois: Profile of the Illinois Home Buyers in 2010 - 04/12/11 07:12 PM
This post is more of an FYI item.

Here are some Interesting numbers that are probably of interest to not only licensed real estate agents in Illinois, but also to private citizens in Illinois who are considering a home purchase in this year of 2011 (data supplied by the Illinois Association of Realtors). Some of these statistics are in the category of "DUH!" But some fall into the category of "Oh, Really???!"
53% of buyers purchased their first home in 2011.
50% of all buyers chose their Realtor to assist them by recommendation from a family member or friend. (reason … (2 comments)

illinois: Radon in Illinois Home Sale Transactions - 12/21/07 03:17 PM
The Illinois lawmakers have established the mandate: every home sale contract that is dated January 1, 2008 and beyond must be accompanied by a radon gas disclosure, to be completed by the seller of the property.  Some communities in the greater Chicagoland area have more of a problem with radon than others, but the legislators are doing their part to raise awareness of this very serious health hazard.
Just in the nick of time, the State issued the required disclosure form and accompanying radon pamphlet earlier this week to real estate professionals.  To read more about the threat of radon from the … (1 comments)

illinois: A visit to the newly-offered land trust home in Evanston - 12/16/07 05:20 PM
I visited the land trust home that I wrote about today.  The executive director of the organization behind this project was there, as well as a couple of directors from the Board.  The house is in the process of being rehabbed, including a totally new kitchen and bathroom.  The house held some surprises for the group, once they closed the sale and started investigating the structure with their contractor.  Who KNEW there would be water damage behind the walls of that back bedroom window!!  But they are addressing all issues in the house and are transforming it into a safe, warm … (0 comments)
