about: Baltimore Glows Purple at Night - 01/16/13 08:47 PM

Baltimore glows purple at night. The Baltimore Ravens are a remarkable team; they’ve made it to the playoffs for the 5th year in a row! Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has urged Baltimore to “light the city purple” for the Ravens. The trend started a few years ago and has really taken hold as we’ve had several years to perfect it.

Speaking of the mayor, here's City Hall. Monuments and historical buildings around town are up-lit at night, most of the year it's standard white lights. When the Ravens are in the NFL Playoffs, purple filters are attached … (3 comments)

about: Baltimore Dog Owners Love Good Doggie Day Care - 12/19/12 11:28 PM

Baltimore dog owners love Good Doggie Day Care at 3500 Ash St Baltimore MD 21211 in the Hampden neighborhood. This facility offers cageless safe and fun day care for dogs. A favorite client of mine regularly takes her dog Zippy to Good Doggie Day Care. Zippy's mom is highly selective, so since it met her criteria I knew it was a resource that I wanted to share.

Good Doggie Day Care is completely cageless. Dogs are separated by size into different playgroups. I met the owner Jo Anne Garret and she gave me a tour of … (0 comments)

about: Maryland's Wild Mulberry Trees - 06/13/12 05:13 AM

In late spring and early summer you can find Maryland’s wild mulberry trees ripening with delicious red berries. One glimpse of this tree and I become nostalgic, I used to walk a path to primary school that was filled with mulberry trees. The juicy berries stained the sidewalks like crazy.

Mulberry trees ripen over an extended period of time as opposed to having to harvest all of the fruit at once. This leads to on-going snacking. You can grab a few ripe berries and know that they’ll be a few more waiting for you the … (2 comments)

about: Rethinking Baltimore's Druid Hill Park - 05/08/12 07:48 AM

Northwest Baltimore is home to the remarkable 745-acre Druid Hill Park. It was formally organized just prior to the Civil War around the same date as New York’s Central Park. Grand Victorian buildings and monuments serve as reminders of its glorious past, yet, if you were to ask the average person in Baltimore what they think about Druid Hill Park today, more often than not the response you’ll hear is “is it safe?”

Last weekend I took a walk around the Resevoir at Druid Hill Park and found it was a resource in Baltimore City that I … (3 comments)

about: What is Buyer's Premium? - 08/18/11 05:24 AM
Real Estate Auctioneers earn their commission through Buyer’s Premium. It can be helpful to think of Buyer’s Premium like sales tax. It is not a fee that has to be paid separately, it is reflected in the total contract price. Don’t let a buyer’s premium dissuade you from participating in an auction. It’s not merely a commission pool for the auction firm; it’s also a reflection of how your agent is going to be paid.

High Bid + Buyer’s Premium = Total Contract Price

The Buyers Premium is a fee added to the high bid in order … (0 comments)

about: What is Your Definition of an Auctioneer? - 06/29/11 09:26 AM
What is your definition of an Auctioneer?

In the May 2011 “Auctioneer” magazine, the official publication of the National Auctioneers Association, candidates for the NAA offices of President, VP, Treasurer and Director were all profiled.
The first question posed to all of the candidates was “What is your definition of an Auctioneer?”
Turns out the answers vary quite a bit.

My favorite answer, “the person whom the seller engages to direct, conduct or be responsible for a sale by auction. This person may or may not actually call or cry the auction”.
Some candidates felt it … (0 comments)

about: Absolute Auction, Minimum Bid Auction, Reserve Auction - the 411 - 05/19/11 01:06 PM
There are many different types of auctions, but three are most common:

Absolute Auction -- This method draws the highest price because of the total sense of urgency the auction creates.   More bidders attend because they know they are not wasting their time on a seller’s “fishing expedition”.   Buyers and agents know that the property will be sold at the auction.  How do they know?  Because at an Absolute Auction, your property will be sold to the highest bidder regardless of price.  This type of auction is primarily used by sellers that have very little or no debt on their … (0 comments)

about: Have you heard of Tranzon? Here's the scoop...... - 05/04/11 02:49 AM
Since 2007 I've had the pleasure of working with Tranzon, a nationwide real estate auction firm. The business model that Tranzon offers is truly unique in the auction industry, we promote national auctions with local expertise, meaning that we offer sellers the dual benefit of a comprehensive national platform paired with community based auction industry veterans. My average listing with Tranzon Fox (the mid-Atlantic division of Tranzon) receives inquiries (on average) from 22 states and several foreign countries. This means I receive calls from brokers and agents within my own community as well as calls from places as … (0 comments)
